Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

These are the most frequently asked questions. If you have a query that is not listed here, please just phone or email us to ask.

Can I have power for building and dismantling my stand?

No. It is a Health & Safety requirement that you use either battery powered tools or provide your own r.c.d. protected generator. Battery packs can be recharged at any of the Security positions by the gates into the Show.

Where is my invoice?

You already have it! The on-line order form is designed as your valid v.a.t. invoice. Print off and keep a copy of the form you send to us.

Why must I order and pay by 31st July - the Show doesn’t start until September?

This is a large and diverse temporary electrical installation. The layout and load centres do charge from year to year. We need time to plan the installation, and source both labour and specialised materials. If we have your order by 31st July, we have only one month left to prepare, that’s why it’s vital we know most of the powered required for the Show. Orders received after this date cause us additional work by having to alter and redesign the installation. So it helps us, and it’s cheaper for you, to order before the deadline!

Am I charged after the Show for the electricity I use?

No. The rates that we charge now include a % ‘energy charge’ to allow for the power you use.

What are the red marks on the grass and tarmac?

As with most things in life – RED MEANS DANGER! There are cables beneath the grass and tarmac areas of the Show. We know where most of these are, and we mark the ground with red paint. This is to stop you driving any pegs etc in these areas. There may also be cables and other services anywhere underground that we do not know about. It is your responsibility to look and to scan the ground if necessary. At the very least – ask! Hitting an underground cable can kill!

Can I use my marina power socket and link it to 2 or more of my boats?

Definitely not! This is a dangerous practice and will not be allowed. You must order one socket per boat if you need mains power on the marina.

What time is the power turned on each day?

Generally 30 minutes before the Show opens. In practice, we start switching on from 8.00 am onwards.

How long can I have power after the Show closes?

Generally 20 minutes. If you have important data – back it up frequently and consider using an uninterruptible power supply (ups). On the final day of the Show, the power may have to be turned off promptly for safety reasons!

I have arrived at the Show but my socket has been put in the wrong place?

We ask you to send us a plan if you want sockets or lights in specific locations. If you did, then we will try to be as accurate as we can be. If you didn’t, then we have to use our discretion as to where they go. If you want them moved afterwards, we may have to charge you! This is particularly relevant on the marina. Once a marina socket is installed, it is very difficult to move it. Remember that we don’t know which way round your boat is going to be, or where the access onto it is. If you want a marina socket – send us a plan!
